Who A-Level Maths Support Is For

This page is for you if your child is:

  • In Year 12 or 13, taking A-Level Maths with AQA, Edexcel, OCR or OCR (MEI).

  • Finding the jump from GCSE to A-Level much bigger than expected – especially with algebra, functions, calculus or problem-solving.

  • Sitting on C/D or low B grades in tests and needs a structured push towards B/A or A*.

  • Capable, but losing marks through messy working, weak exam technique or poor decision-making under time.

  • Strong with basic methods, but struggling on longer problems, proofs, modelling or applied questions.

If your child is already on a solid A and wants to aim for A*, we’ll talk honestly in the Grade Roadmap Meeting about whether a standard package or a more intensive route is best.

EXAM BOARDS WE support

We support all major A-Level Maths specifications:

  • AQA A-Level Maths

  • Edexcel A-Level Maths

  • OCR A-Level Maths

  • OCR (MEI) A-Level Maths

Across all boards, we cover:

  • Pure Maths: algebra, functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, binomial expansion, trigonometry, exponentials & logs, differentiation, integration, vectors.

  • Statistics: data presentation, probability, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing.

  • Mechanics: forces, motion, kinematics, Newton’s laws, moments and energy.

We don’t just “teach topics” – we teach how your child’s specific board likes to ask and mark those topics.

How We Teach A-Level Maths at Spacetime

A-Level Maths at Spacetime isn’t just extra explanation on top of class. We use a consistent approach:

  1. Diagnostic first

We look at past papers, tests and classwork to see where marks are leaking – algebra, calculus, statistics, mechanics, exam technique or confidence.

  2. Teach the minimum that unlocks marks

We don’t re-teach the whole course. We target the key ideas and methods that, once fixed, unlock a lot of questions.

  3. Drill with exam-style questions

Once a method is clear, we move quickly into board-style questions and variations, so it sticks under exam conditions.

  4. Build exam behaviour, not just knowledge

We work on time strategy, step-by-step working, checking and decision-making – when to use which method, and what to skip.

  5. Track progress against real papers

We revisit similar questions and papers over time, so you can see whether marks and confidence are moving in the right direction.

Lessons are live, one-to-one, and tailored to your child’s exam board and current position – but always inside this structure.

A-Level Maths Packages

We don’t sell endless hourly lessons. A-Level Maths support is offered through clear packages with a fixed number of lesson credits and a recommended time frame.

You’ll choose the exact package (and topic, if relevant) in your Grade Roadmap Meeting or on our booking pages, but this is the basic structure:

1. A-Level Maths Topic Mastery Packs

Best for:
Students who are mostly okay in A-Level Maths but have one or two weak areas dragging everything down (for example, differentiation & integration, algebra & functions, trigonometry, statistics or mechanics basics).

What it does:

  • Targets one main topic or a tight cluster of skills.

  • Cleans up methods, algebra and working in that area.

  • Uses exam-board-style questions so that topic becomes predictable, not a gamble.

Typical size & pace:

  • Each Topic Mastery pack has its own number of lessons and expiry, set to give enough time to make real progress without dragging on.

  • Most packs run over roughly 4–6 weeks, with longer expiry to allow for real life.

Expiry & why (approx.):

  • Expiry: 60 days from the first lesson.

  • This gives a realistic buffer for illness, holidays or clashes, while still keeping the pack short and focused so the topic doesn’t fade between lessons.

How you’ll book it:

On our A-Level Maths booking page, there will be a dedicated Topic Mastery section. From there you’ll be able to:

  • See all the available Topic Mastery packs (e.g. Differentiation, Integration, Trigonometry, Statistics, Mechanics), and

  • Choose the one that matches your child’s main weak area – or pick the closest and let us confirm after an initial diagnostic.

If you’re not sure which topic is the real bottleneck, you can always book a Grade Roadmap Meeting first and we’ll recommend the right pack.

2. A-Level Maths Exam Accelerators

Best for:
Students heading towards mocks or final exams who are stuck around C/B and need a structured push towards B/A or A* in the time left.

What it does:

  • Focuses on the heaviest-weighted and most problematic areas for that student (typically core pure + problem-solving + exam technique).

  • Builds a timed-paper routine, so they aren’t surprised by the length and difficulty of the real exams.

  • Works on mark conversion – turning partial attempts into secure, full-mark answers.

Typical size & pace:

  • Usually around 10–12 lessons over 10–12 weeks.

  • We may offer different Accelerator variants depending on start point, exam board and time remaining.

Expiry & why (approx.):

  • Expiry: 120 days from the first lesson.

  • The recommended teaching window is 10–12 weeks, but 120 days (around 4 months) gives enough flex for mock schedules, school events and family life while still keeping the programme tight and exam-focused.

How you’ll book it:

On the A-Level Maths booking page, the Exam Accelerator section will show the available Accelerator options. From there you’ll be able to:

  • See the number of lessons and basic outline for each option, and

  • Choose the Accelerator that fits your child’s timeline and target grades.

If you’re unsure whether an Accelerator or Full Mastery is better, it’s worth booking a Grade Roadmap Meeting first and we’ll advise honestly.

3. A-Level Maths Full Mastery Programmes

Best for:
Students who have time (ideally starting in Year 12 or early Year 13) and want A-Level Maths to feel solid from the ground up – not a last-minute rescue.

What it does:

  • Systematically strengthens core pure maths alongside key elements of statistics and mechanics.

  • Runs alongside school, helping students stay ahead of class or consolidate properly instead of “just about coping”.

  • Includes regular checkpoints with exam-style questions and past papers, so there are no surprises when exams arrive.

Typical size & pace:

  • Usually around 20–24+ lessons over roughly 20–24 weeks (about 5–6 months).

  • We may offer different Full Mastery options depending on starting point and how early in the course a student joins.

Expiry & why (approx.):

  • Expiry: 240 days from the first lesson.

  • The teaching plan is built around a 20–24 week runway, but 240 days (about 8 months) allows for holidays, mocks, school trips and inevitable life events, while still keeping the programme moving forward at a sensible pace.

How you’ll book it:

On the A-Level Maths booking page, the Full Mastery section will show the available programmes. From there you’ll be able to:

  • See the programme length and basic outline, and

  • Choose the option that fits your child’s timeline, entry point and target grades.

If you’re hesitant about committing to a longer programme, book a Grade Roadmap Meeting and we can talk through whether Full Mastery or a shorter Accelerator makes more sense.honestly.

4. A/A* Exam Labs

Best for:
Strong A-Level Maths students already working around a B/C who are aiming for an A or A* and are ready to commit to a short, intense block of work.

What it does:

  • Runs over a tight 10–12 week window leading into key exams or mocks.

  • Focuses heavily on A/A*-level questions, reasoning, proof and modelling – not basic methods.

  • Rehearses exam behaviour with timed sections, marked scripts, rewrites and re-tests, so high-level performance becomes repeatable and less dependent on “luck on the day”.

Typical size & pace:

  • Typically 10–12 lessons over 10–12 weeks, often with set weekly expectations between lessons (independent practice, marked scripts, corrections).

Expiry & why (approx.):

  • Expiry: 120 days from the first lesson.

  • The Lab is designed to run as a focused 10–12 week sprint, but 120 days gives a small buffer for illness or unavoidable clashes without losing the intensity and momentum that make a Lab effective.

How you’ll book it:

When the A-Level Maths booking page is live, there will be a dedicated Exam Lab section. From there you’ll be able to:

  • See available A/A* Exam Lab options for A-Level Maths, and

  • Request a place on a Lab that matches your child’s exam timeline.

Because Labs are intensive and selective, we’ll usually confirm suitability through either:

  • A Grade Roadmap Meeting, or

  • An initial diagnostic lesson, before the full Lab is activated.

If you’re interested in an Exam Lab but not sure if it’s the right fit, you can book a Grade Roadmap Meeting and we’ll talk it through honestly.

Who will Teach A-Level Maths?

A-Level Maths at Spacetime is led by Dhawal Joshi, a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience in post-16 and post-18 education.

Lead Educator: Dhawal Joshi (Qualified Teacher)

Subjects:

  • A-Level Mathematics

  • A-Level Further Maths (coming soon)

  • IB Maths (coming soon)

  • AP Maths (coming soon)

Dhawal works almost exclusively with 16+ students (A-Level, IB, AP and advanced Physics/Maths). His work is focused on:

  • Helping students manage the step from GCSE 7–9 into A-Level without collapsing in Year 12.

  • Moving students from C/D to B/A and A* when there is enough time and consistent effort.

  • Building the kind of mathematical understanding that supports STEM degrees and apprenticeships, not just one exam series.

Day-to-day GCSE and KS3 Maths at Spacetime is handled by other specialist educators in the team, so that A-Level students benefit from a tutor whose attention is firmly on 16+ courses and exam demands.

How the Grade Roadmap Meeting works for A-Level Maths

For A-Level Maths enquiries:

  • Your Grade Roadmap Meeting will normally be with Dhawal or another senior educator who understands A-Level Maths and post-18 pathways.

  • In that call, you’ll review current grades, exam board and time left, and decide whether to start with a Topic Mastery Pack, an Exam Accelerator, a Full Mastery Programme, or an A/A* Exam Lab.

If your family also needs support for GCSE or KS3, we’ll match those lessons with the most suitable educator from the wider Spacetime team.

Results, Proof & Next Steps

We don’t promise specific grades – there are too many variables. But we do:

  • Show you how we think about moving from one grade band to another in A-Level Maths.

  • Share patterns from students who have used Topic Mastery Packs, Exam Accelerators and Full Mastery Programmes.

  • Be honest about what’s realistic in the time and situation you have.

You can see examples of Maths and Physics stories on our Results page, or you can go straight to a Grade Roadmap Meeting to talk about your child.
